Dear friends,
Let us begin with the beautiful words of Isaiah 42: v 1-7
“Behold my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights; I have put my Spirit on him: he will bring forth justice to the nations.
He will not cry out or lift his voice or make it heard in the street: a bruised reed he will not break, and a faintly burning wick he will not quench; he will bring about justice.
He will not grow faint or be discouraged ‘till he has established justice in the earth: and the coastlands wait for his law.
Thus says God, the Lord; ‘I have called you in righteousness: I will take you by the hand and keep you; I will give you as a covenant for the people, a light for the nations, to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness.’ ”
These words are always a powerful reminder to us that our Jesus is the delight of his Father and that he, even now, is interceding for the wellbeing of mankind and the nations. We don’t need to despair when world events look like they currently do. We can pray!
If you receive this prayer update, then you will also have received a recent letter from CPA, telling you about the changes that will be taking place at Christmas, and our intentions for the future.
We would be grateful for your prayer, that we will be able to fulfil all our commitments over that time.
We are committed to and praying that:
- All the Komamboga children complete their education.
Please continue to pray for Julius who is regularly checking in with the families and guardians of the children. He is a busy man with his own family. We ask for good health and strength as he looks out for those in his care. He’s not a man to ‘cry out’ but to quietly tend to those in need.
- All the children on the School Scholarship Scheme at St Paul’s School in Rukungiri complete their primary education.
Let us pray that any who are really feeling the pressure at the moment, those who perhaps feel like a ‘bruised reed’, will know the presence of God, and by the power of His Spirit sense a strength and peace that comes from Him.
- The St Paul’s families find a more sustainable way of living, so they can pay for their own children to go to secondary school.
Local governance, both in the school and community can play a big part in the wellbeing of the children and families. Let us pray for good leadership, and sound and fair decisions for those who feel like a ‘faintly burning wick’. Lord, we want to see your Kingdom come and your will being done.
- The Afar girls studying at university in Ethiopia complete their courses.
These girls do amazingly well to be away from their families. They are bright and may well form part of decision-making bodies in the future. We ask they will remain safe. We pray they will not be afraid to hold a light up in the darkness, and that they will be willing to stand up for justice, in whatever capacity they find themselves. We pray that Ethiopia as a nation would return to being peaceable once again.
- The family empowerment groups in North Kigezi Dioceses and the slums of Kampala will continue to grow and expand. These exciting projects have become transformative in helping families get up on their feet and find a more sustainable way of living. Our teams are working with 120 families in North Kigezi and 40 families in Kampala.
Once again, our friend Julius, is pioneering this project with the 40 families in Kampala. Esther and her team of social workers are supporting the 120 families in NK. We pray for logistics to carry out the support in a compassionate and timely manner as there are a lot of people now involved. We pray the Holy Spirit will continue to give Esther, Nelson, Adeera and Naomi the strength and courage to help build capacity amongst the communities we are currently working with.
Finally, we ask for your prayers as directors of CPA. We want to ‘run the race well’. Please pray for Father’s guidance on our decisions, and his blessing on the many lives in the places where we have been, and the people we are connected to.
May God’s peace be with you.
